A Family Using Technology to Transform Lives
A local family is making a national impact—one iPad at a time.
Joey, a young boy from West Chester, was born with nystagmus—a condition also known as “dancing eyes” that makes it difficult to focus and see at a distance.
He discovered that an iPad with a magnifying app and zoom features could help him—and he wanted to share that power with other students.
Joey now uses an iPad to zoom in and read text he otherwise couldn’t, making both schoolwork and homework more accessible and less frustrating.
His family realized the need was bigger than just their home.
iPads with full-screen accessibility tools can cost more than $1,000—placing them out of reach for many families. Joey’s family launched Vision Nonprofit to change that, creating a volunteer-powered organization that donates iPads to children with visual impairments across the country.
Most of the devices have gone to families in Greater Cincinnati—but they’ve also reached kids as far away as Texas.
Vision Nonprofit partners with Clovernook Center and Cincinnati Children’s Low Vision Clinic to identify children who qualify and provide training so students can use their new tools to the fullest.
Joey plays a big role—writing handwritten notes to each recipient.
“I am very happy. I like to help kids like you and me,” Joey wrote in one of his letters.
His older brother helps too—packing iPads, screen protectors, and cases for shipment.
Together, they’re showing other kids with low vision that they are just as capable as anyone else.
Every member of Vision Nonprofit is a volunteer.
That means every dollar donated goes directly toward helping a child who needs support.
Donate now to help more families access life-changing technology.
