A donated iPad meant for one life is now changing another.
Kathy holding a card written by Joey and Joey is holding the donated iPad.
Earlier this year, Kathy reached out after seeing our story on the local news. She shared that her husband had lived with severe vision loss — a condition that made everyday tasks more difficult and isolated him from the technology that so many of us take for granted. To support him, she purchased a brand-new iPad Pro, hoping it would help him stay connected, independent, and empowered.
Tragically, he never got the chance to use it.
He passed away just a few months later due to complications from cancer. The iPad remained in its box — untouched, full of potential, and heavy with emotion. For months, Kathy wasn’t sure what to do with it. It felt too personal to give away, but too painful to leave sitting idle.
Then, she saw Joey’s story — and she knew.
The moment she learned about Vision Nonprofit’s mission to provide iPads and accessible tech to students with low vision, something clicked. She realized the iPad could still serve the purpose it was intended for. It could still help someone see, learn, and grow.
Thanks to Kathy’s generous donation, that iPad is now being used by a student with low vision.
It’s helping them complete schoolwork, read independently, stay organized, and explore their creativity. The very tool Kathy hoped would support her husband is now changing the life of a child who needs it.
This act of kindness, born from love and loss, is now part of someone else’s beginning.
Stories like Kathy’s remind us that giving doesn’t always mean buying something new. Sometimes, it means looking around at what we already have — and imagining what it could mean in someone else’s hands.
Donating new or gently used tech is deeply appreciated.
If you have an iPad, Apple Pencil, Bluetooth keyboard, AirPods, or similar tools you’re no longer using, we’ll make sure they go directly to a student who needs them. Your unused tech can become someone’s turning point.
You don’t have to change the world for everyone — just one person.
Reach out if you think you have tech you would like to donate.
