Beeping Eggs and Epic Showdowns: A Spring Celebration of Accessibility
William headed out to search for beeping eggs
At Vision Nonprofit, we believe every child should get the chance to enjoy the simple joys of childhood — especially during moments that bring families together. This spring, we were honored to be part of the Beeping Egg Hunt at Clovernook Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired — a joyful, inclusive event where technology and tradition came together in the best way.
Hunting by Sound, Not Sight
Held on Clovernook’s scenic campus, the event welcomed children who are blind or have low vision to participate in a truly unique egg hunt. Instead of relying on sight, the eggs beeped — allowing children to locate them using their hearing.
These eggs were originally developed by a bomb technician in Memphis who reimagined his team’s technical skills to build something purely fun — a gift of sound-guided independence for kids who might otherwise be sidelined during this kind of tradition.

Clovernook has continued to innovate, adding lights for children with partial vision and rattles for those who are deaf-blind, making each hunt more inclusive than the last.

A Friendly Showdown
Beyond the egg hunt, the event also introduced kids and families to Showdown — a fast-paced sport often described as a blend of table tennis and air hockey. Played with an audible ball and blindfolds (to level the playing field), the game sharpens listening and reaction skills. Most importantly? It’s a blast.
The sport is governed internationally by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) and is growing in popularity across schools, community centers, and accessibility programs.
We even had a “friendly” face-off (read: fierce competition) between some of the older kids and a few brave adults. Let’s just say... the kids won.
Why It Matters
Events like these are a beautiful reminder that accessibility isn’t just about what kids need — it’s also about what they deserve. Laughter. Play. Confidence. The opportunity to explore the world around them without limitations.
At Vision Nonprofit, our mission is to provide the tools and technology — from iPads to screen readers — that help kids thrive in every setting, from the classroom to the egg hunt.
